Of course, I WILL put up a lot of information about any Cloverfield sequels and any other cool gossip I hear! I'll tell you all about it...
So, who am I? Well, just say I'm "HUD", who is guiding you through the djungle of stuff that's out there. In this first post I'm going to give you a small review of CLOVERFIELD - the movie we all love!
When I first saw the trailer I thought this was going to be just another monster film. I had recently watched the Korean GWOEMUL (THE HOST, 2006), and I thought Cloverfield would be a bad rehash of that - and combinating Blair Witch at the same time. BAD combination, in my opinion.
Well, I was wrong. Where THE HOST is a wonderful movie, it shows the monster threat in a completely different way. It's not even possible to compare these two films.
CLOVERFIELD goes to extremes when it comes to the epic feel - and that's good! I thought the use of hand-cameras and simple home-cams would limit the feeling of "big" in this film, but actually, it's totally the opposite.
The actors are fairly good, and mainly do good work. The first scenes are a little bit too much "teen drama" and somewhat corny, but it doesn't really matter, since we go for a fast-paced action journey from there.
I simply loved the climbing-in-the-sky-scraper-scene, and I very much liked the ending.
CLOVERFIELD gives you what many other films don't: a feeling that there is more than what was told and that you actually want to know it!
We want to see what happens next, what happened in other cities at the same time, what it really was that was happening, etc. We want to know all these things.
It's a great film, and simply beautiful entertainment. 7/10 from me. More if it hadn't been for some of the digital effects and the somewhat corny start.
